A Thank You from The Rainbow Centre

Part of the proceeds from our Come & Sing events goes to The Rainbow Centre in Folkestone. Here is some information about them and a thank you to all Sing Happy workshop participants for helping to support them

and the services they provide.

The Folkestone Rainbow Centre is a charity with its foundations firmly rooted in Shepway. Founded in 1985 as the Folkestone Family Care Centre, the charity has grown over the past 30 years into a well-respected and effective organisation, providing a variety of services in response to local need.

The Rainbow Centre believes that no-one in Shepway should have to sleep outside or go hungry, and by working in partnership with Sing Happy, workshop participants can really help to make a difference to some of the most disadvantaged members of our community.

The Homeless Support Service offers practical assistance for those individuals who are rough sleeping or sofa-surfing, and works in partnership with other support agencies to source accommodation or signpost to other organisations as appropriate. We also assist with the practicalities of managing life on the streets by offering showers, laundry facilities and a postal address, as well as emergency food provision.

We at the Rainbow Centre are proud of our volunteer support, without which we couldn't run many of our services.

Foodstop is run entirely by volunteers, providing a mobile soup kitchen in Folkestone three times a week, every week of the year. The Shepway Foodbank, a part of a nationwide network of Foodbanks, is supported by the Trussell Trust, and helps families in crisis in our communities. We have two distribution centres in Folkestone and New Romney. Another project, which is largely volunteer based, is the Folkestone Churches Winter Shelter. This project provides bed spaces for those individuals sleeping rough over the coldest months of the year and is supported by over 150 volunteers who give their evenings and nights to help fun the shelter.

Harking back to our origins as a family-focused organisation, we also run the Rainbow Pre-school providing early years education and play-based learning, as well as the Family Contact Centre, a supported setting offering a safe, friendly and neutral place for children of separated families to spend time with their close relatives.
